Dr. Cooper received an M.D. from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1971 and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at John Hopkins Hospital. He completed fellowships at the National Institutes of Health, 1973-1975, and in hematology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Harvard Medical School, 1975-1977.
