Medical degree with honors from the University of Rome, School of Medicine in July 1980; residencies with the University of Rome were in the Internal Med-Endocrine Section, the Internal Medical Department, and the Thyroid Pathophysiology Center through 1983; internship in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia through 1985; residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine through 1986; fellowship in endocrinology/metabolism and internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota during 1987; residency in radiation oncology at the Mayo Clinic through 1991; fellowship in radiation oncology at University of Virginia during 1991.
